On the 5th of June 2009 the first edition of the Doctoral Workshop on Law & Technology will be hosted by the European University Institute in Florence, organized by the Law department of the EUI in conjunction with the University of Trento and speakers from the University of Bologna.
The conference aims to be an original and ground-breaking symposium, where researchers from both Universities can engage into a constructive debate over the legal developments and transformations, both current and expected, in the digital environment. Taking into account the present technological trends affecting society, the conference will focus on the main problems and changes that the law will face and must adapt to in a future of ambient technologies, ubiquitous and pervasive computing, web 3.0, mixed realities (convergence between virtual and physical domains), autonomous software agents, artificial intelligence and many other features and elements.
The attendees of the conference will be presenting work in a variety of fields, ranging from copyright to patent to more philosophical issues of the inter-relation of technology and law. Subjects covered will include considerations of commercial aspects of law and economics, as well as aspects of fundamental rights and security.
